Stress at work – 10 tips to make work fun again
What is stressful about you at work?
In order to be able to reduce stress effectively, you must first find out what is causing you all the stress. And that before your health is detrimental, and you complain about stomach pain, heartburn, back pain, or migraines. Before you get sick from stress, think again. Because the question is also: is it the job or is it you?
Only those who know what they want can find it!
What do I need to be happy? What am I dissatisfied with? Is it just the deadline pressure or is it more? To be happy, the job has to do what is important and meaningful to you! Perhaps your own demands are set too high: the job has to be fulfilling, create meaning, bring in a lot of money. As you try to figure out what is really important to you, you may discover completely different priorities. Write down what you really want and align your daily work accordingly. Find a job that you enjoy.
Work doesn’t have to mean non-stop stress. Here are 10 tips to reduce stress at work and have more fun at work again:
Work step by step
The best way to tackle a huge mountain of work is working slice by slice: mentally break down extensive tasks into several small work steps. This makes them appear easier to master, and each step is a small success.
Decelerate and pause
True to the motto: “If you are in a hurry, go slowly”. Not only discipline and diligence bring you further, but also the courage to take it easy. If you slow down your pace, you end up not working more slowly, but more effectively. The day just has 24 hours. Even if you have to take on additional work after staff cuts, you can no longer work, but only differently. Plan 60 percent of your working time with specific tasks and thus reduce stress in the workplace. The rest is filled with unforeseen events anyway.
Take care of balance and relaxation through sport
Take care of yourself – even before you are at the end of your tether. You need continuous periods of relaxation to recharge your batteries. Exercise reduces stress and promotes the production of happiness hormones. 30 minutes of endurance sports three times a week are recommended: a permanently better mood and more energy at work are thanks to the body.
Be proud of your achievement
Another important tip against stress at work: Don’t see your job as a means to an end but as a craft. Look for ways to improve your score. When you have finished a task, look at the result and praise yourself for it in your mind – more motivation at work makes you happier! In short, whatever you do, do it well.
Challenge yourself
Is your work monotonous? Are you tired of doing the same thing every day? Make your mundane tasks more interesting by adding an extra challenge. Make it a goal to try something new every day. Even if the goal you have set is small, you never know what effect it could have on your work the next day.
Take your distance from too low demands!
Work is never fun anyway? Anyone who doesn’t hope enough from their job in the first place misses many opportunities – especially those enjoying the work at least now and then. If your everyday work seems gray, you should imagine what a perfect job would look like for you. You immediately notice the difference in the current situation. Write down the negative points, think about which of them you can most easily change.
Relate negative events
Because these are always only part of a sum of many good things. Stick to the facts. What really happened Your customer has chosen a different provider. It is a fact that you were more expensive than the competition. That the customer doesn’t like you, speculation – which only makes you unhappy and is of no use.
Stay away from negative interactions. Gossip, ridicule, speculation – these things only increase stress in the workplace. Reduce the time and energy you spend doing it.
Multitasking is a myth
Nobody can carry out several complex activities at the same time, the human brain cannot do that. Just focus on one thing. If you want to do it well, put all your energy into a task, and you will be surprised how much more you can do every day and with ever-better quality.
Stress at work? – Exchange unloved
Every job contains unloved activities. Offer your colleagues a task swap more often. What is a boring and agonizing task for one person can be an exciting activity and a new challenge for another.
Learn to appreciate what is good
One often tends to take the positive aspects of the job for granted and only bother with the details that are perceived as negative. The same applies here: Happy is someone who forgets what cannot be changed. It can help to visualize the positive aspects of your work and to appreciate them more and to focus on them. Ask yourself why you decided on your job and what gave you a lot of pleasure, especially in the exciting early days or other exciting phases. You may be able to restore these situations and tasks now. Often you overlook the fact that you are actually sitting with your “bottom in the sugar”.
Manage your stress!
If you now say that the problem is precisely the implementation, you should once again remind yourself of the negative consequences of stress – make it clear to yourself which diseases can arise from stress. Stress is something that we can only relieve ourselves – no one else will do it for us. It is up to you to take care of yourself.
